One of the most impressive animated films I've seen in a long time. The stop-motion animation is amazingly fluid and lifelike, and the characters are very expressive and full of emotion. Visually it's a treat, with imaginative design and sumptuous photography. Even better is the script holding everything together. It's surprisingly funny and the characters interact in believable and sometimes surprising ways. And the plot resolution is both satisfying and illuminating of certain aspects of Japanese culture.

Amazing beginning, okay ending, boring middle. McConaughey was a bad casting choice.
Although. Kubo is one of my favorite screen characters this summer. I loved the crap out of him. The animation is gorgeous. Maybe I was just too tired when I saw this. Will probably give it another try in the future.
