MCU's best solo film

What a wonderful, charming, delightful movie this is. It’s MCU’s best solo effort by far, and the best Spiderman movie that’s been made to date. Tom Holland is the perfect Peter Parker, a wholly believable kid who behaves like a kid. Michael Keaton is terrifying as the Vulture, who is definitely the MCU’s best villain give-or-take Loki. The first face-to-face they have is absolutely terrifying, following a twist that had my entire theatre gasping. Bonus points: this is such a true NYC movie, with an emphasis on the outer boroughs for a change, it just warms my heart to see my city so faithfully put on film.

Good

The Marvel universe had done it again: made a actionmovie full of effects, humor and references to the previous movies in the series, so you feel right at home. Tom Holland repeats his great preformance as the young spiderman, who has to balace being a kid, with being a superhero.
Not the best in the Marvel-line, but still a great movie

Subdued my skepticism.

Like most people, I didn't think that we needed another Spider-Man reboot, but surprisingly, my skepticism was quickly subdued by Spider-Man Homecoming. Tom Holland is the best actor so far to portray the geeky, smart-mouthed web-slinger, and more importantly he actually passes for a teenager at a Queens high school, which to their credit, the filmmakers make racially diverse like it should be. Director Jon Watts and his screenwriters craft a sweet, coming-of-age tale about Peter Parker growing into a hero under the guidance of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Their story eschews Spider-Man’s clunky, repetitive mythology that was needlessly reiterated in previous films. Plus, their narrative pits Spidey against one of the Marvel cinematic universe’s best villains to date: The Vulture (Michael Keaton). This villain’s plan isn't maniacal world-domination; it’s providing for his family, which makes him much more grounded, relatable, and frankly, scary, because he has a lot to lose fi...(more)

This villain’s plan isn't maniacal world-domination; it’s providing for his family, which makes him much more grounded, relatable, and frankly, scary, because he has a lot to lose financially and emotionally if he’s caught. The only things that don't work so well in the film are its YouTube shaky-cam-style recap of Spider-Man’s involvement in Captain America: Civil War and its unnecessary involvement of Jon Favreau’s Happy as a point of contact in case the Avengers should need Spidey’s assistance. Both elements are disruptive and unnecessary detours on an otherwise satisfying outing. (less)
