Simply brilliant

I had to drive a ways to see this one as it's still only on limited release, but it was worth every single mile. The movie is about Alan Turing who (in the unlikely case that you do not know him) not only laid the groundwork for many areas of modern computer science (most notably on the theoretical side and regarding artificial intelligence), but also spent years of his life working to decode the Enigma machine. Benedict Cumberbatch is (as usual) simply brilliant in portraying Turing's genius as well as his struggle with social interactions and with being homosexual. The film jumps back and forth in time and also uses some historical war images which all added to drive the story forward. It had me laughing and feeling sad many times besides being a true thriller. I think they took some artistic liberty romanticizing Turing a bit as I don't recall the enigma decoding machine being called Christopher, but I can accept such liberties in favor of a more compelling storytelling. Still, I wou...(more)

Still, I would have preferred a version closer to the truth and also someone else for Joan Clarke as Keira Knightley is beautiful, but not the most remarkable actress. To me, this was easily one of my favorite films of 2014. (Did I mention Cumberbatch?). (less)

A True Powerhouse Performance

Benedict Cumberbatch delivers an astounding performance as tormented genius Alan Turing. The strength of story, plus a strong cast bring this movie to fruition in gripping detail. Struggling with morality, personal relationships, and his own love, which was outlawed in early- to mid-1900s Britain, Turing managed to break the code with a group of brilliant minds to help turn the tide of WWII.

I LOVED IT <3

I came into this movie expecting something totally different from what I watched a few moments ago, I knew I was gonna love it that was a given, I mean it's Keira in a period drama of course I was gonna love it. But I didn't think it was gonna move me as intensely as it did.
I'm not gonna discuss the acting , the cast is to die for there is nothing I can say that will ever describe how talented and real these actors are, but I will say I find this cumberbatch's finest movie to date for sure.
The story itself was intriguing and I loved the multiple time transitions , what I liked most though about this movie , loved actually , is definitely the many serious issues it delt with seemingly so effortlessly , not once did this movie feel forced, it conveyed what it did without sounding preachy and I liked that very much.
Hoping cumberbatch lands an Oscar for this role he certainly deserves it!
