"A new twist on the classic tail."
The story begins with an old grandmother telling her two granddaughters the story of The Little Mermaid. In the story, a little mermaid princess finally turns old enough to go up to the surface, the place she is most infatuated with. Once above, she saves a prince from a shipwreck and falls in love with him. She carries him to the beach where he only gets a blurry glimpse of her. Before he fully awakes, the mermaid is scared off by a girl coming onto the beach and disappears into the ocean. The prince sees the girl instead and assumes she saved him. Under the sea, the mermaid went to see a wizard, who agreed to give her legs. However, it comes with a price; if the mermaid marries the prince, she can be with him forever. But if she doesn't, her soul will belong to him. The mermaid agrees and becomes human. Before she can proclaim her love to the prince, she finds out that he married the girl from the beach. The mermaid pleads with the wizard to give her more time, but the wizard steals her soul nonetheless. Now the mermaid is forced to a life away from her true home the sea, without true love, and slavery to the wizard for all eternity.
Despite their young ages, the girls don't believe in the story, until their grandmother tells them a tale of a girl she knew who met a mermaid. Many years ago, a young reporter named Cam Harrison who had failed to earn a living sets out in search of a good story accompanied by his young niece, Elle. There, they go to a circus and encounter a beautiful mermaid trapped in a glass tank. They are further amazed when the mermaid appears before them as a young woman with legs. The duo soon learn of a prophecy about a little girl born on land but blessed with the heart of a mermaid. With this prophecy come to life in Elle, they are further entangled in a sinister plot of a wizard who wishes to keep the mermaid's soul and convert it to power.
