Rinema is the best way to share movies you love.

Insurance company drone by day, illustrator by night. I am not an intellectual moviegoer; give me a good superhero movie with lots of 'splosions or a Pixar flick and pass the popcorn.

Dialogue is for sissies

Scarlet Johansson gives a steady, solid performance as an alien trying to understand humans, while at the same time preying on them. There is so little dialogue in this movie, the viewer is forced to interpret what is going on mostly by long introspective shots and subtle cues by the actors.

I'm not going to go into critiques of the directorial style and stylistic choices. Not something I'd miss if I never saw...

Codependence Day

I LOVED that this was a cerebral kind of drama instead of an actiony blockbuster. The whole thing kind of hangs on Amy Adams' performance, which was a steady low-key intensity that kept me fascinated throughout the entire film. The movie explores the concept of how understanding those who are different than us can mean the difference between destruction and exaltation. More movies like this, please!

Girl on valium

While Jennifer Lawrence can make any film better, and her portrayal of Katniss has become almost iconic, her great performance still couldn't save this slow-paced movie that was, aside from about 15 minutes of action scenes, frankly boring. It was a monochromatic, dour, bleak, two-hour slog. I'm kind of angry that they got me to pay to see two movies that should have only been one. A real disappointment.

Tale as old as the 90s

I was wary about sitting through 2 hours of a live-action version of the original Disney film, but I came away just pretty dang delighted. This was just so beautiful and well-made, and Emma Watson was perfect for the role. The whole thing was just surprisingly good.

I thought I was dead inside

Casey Affleck gives a very subdued yet powerful performance here. A moving story about a man who, after a tragedy, closes himself off from trying to feel anything, and the effect it has on those around him. The script is well written, as the film jumps back and forth through time yet doesn't disorient. The moments are all wound together in just the right way.

Turning tables

Okay horror flick; the twist that comes about halfway through is mildly intriguing, but not really enough to hold up the rest of the movie.

Someone HAS come along

Incredibly brutal, both physically and emotionally. Hugh Jackman's swan song for a character he's played for the last 17 years, and his best Wolverine performance, hands down.

This is not the kind of movie you go and enjoy; the action is not fun or blockbuster-y. Especially the violence performed by the young mutant Laura, played heartbreakingly well by Dafne Keen. This is about characters surviving in a bleak,...

DON'T GO IN THERE

As solid a horror movie as could be asked for, with a very out-there premise, Jordan Peele examines the social demon of racism in a new and interesting way. I'm excited to see what else he's got up his sleeve.

You're not very good at retiring

I absolutely loved John Wick, and had high hopes for this film that were definitely rewarded. Everything great from the first film, from beautifully choreographed non-shaky-cam brutal action to gorgeous, indulgent cinematography was kept. Yet, instead of giving us the same movie again as many lackluster sequels tend to do, this film expanded the world John lives in, upping the stakes, and delivering another great...

Unleash the beast

As much as some outspoken people have wished for M. Night to just go away, I'm glad he didn't. James McAvoy is put through his acting paces in this role, giving life to many different personalities, and he is riveting. Anya Taylor-Joy is a fantastic protagonist who we care deeply about. One of the best slow-burn thrillers I've seen.

Let's get nuts

This movie, just like its predecessor, The Lego Movie, works. Not because it throws a hundred corporate brands at us one after the other, but because it gives us characters to care about. This is the absolute best on-screen depiction of Bruce Wayne's pain at losing his parents and being afraid to let anyone into his life again, and its resolution. And, paradoxically, it only works so well because it is so...

The yell

Considering absolutely nobody wanted another Tarzan movie, a good cast more or less kept this from being a waste of time.

We gave you one rule

Wanted to brush up on my Scott Derrickson after Dr. Strange. A solid horror movie without too dumb of a premise. Not an especially satisfying ending, but not bad.
