Rhain Leddy

I am a man of ideas, ideas that come from seemingly nowhere and, sometimes, blossom into great things. Most times, though, my ideas sound somewhat odd. But that is the very thing that I want my ideas to be. My brand of humor and creativity is somewhat

Excellent

Despite its disappointing performance at the box office, “Scott Pilgrim” was met with critical acclaim. Though this critical acclaim, it seems, comes only from those who appreciate the kind of literature on which this movie is based. Several critics have panned the movie solely on the basis of its target audience.

Ignoring Michael Cera's continued typecasting into the awkward hero archetype, his performance was...

Excellent

Personally, I'll give anything made by Sam Raimi a chance (except The Grudge, I tend to ignore that he had a hand in that). There's just something about his films that makes them unique, from his early days making the Evil Dead series to this little gem, Drag Me to Hell. Raimi works his signature magic by interspersing comedic elements with the overall creepiness of the story. Which, I might add, is pretty...

Godly

Thundering into the Marvel filmverse comes Thor, the Norse god of thunder, to save the day in not one, not two, but THREE different worlds. A sort of coming-of-age tale with the bar set Asgardianly high, the film follows Thor's (Christopher Hemsworth) development from a naïve, brash, young warrior to a noble deity who respects the value of all life, eventually making the ultimate sacrifice to protect it.

The crown...

Patriotic

Should any readers know me, they know that my standards when it comes to all things superhero-related are much higher than the average moviegoer's. Virtually everything must correspond to the source material, or else I find it hard to treat the film in the manner that I personally believe that the superhero myth should be treated: critically and with respect. To change fundamental aspects of the already...

Best Film Ever

I sit here now, upon my throne of thousands of DVD cases and their discarded cellophane wrappers, to proclaim to the masses that 1942's “Casablanca” is the greatest movie in cinematic history.

Now, some of you may be screaming “Nay! No black and white film could hold a candle to MY favorite film!” But you must remember: black and white films came FIRST.

“Casablanca” is so great because of the simple fact that it...

Yay, we have the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

This is not my favorite movie, but I am perfectly happy agreeing it's the greatest movie of all time. I have very little patience for old movies, especially b&w ones, but this one captivated me from start to finish.

Misleading

Normally, I am a huge fan of Denzel Washington. While watching "Flight", I could see more and more how much he was struggling to make the best of what turned out to be a terrible movie.

"Flight" was, actually, terrible even BEFORE its theatrical release. The trailer, which only shows a select few scenes of dialogue, is dominated by the plane crash scene. One would think that such prominence would mean more scenes...

Cute

There is little more in the world that I would love to see than competitive video gaming being the most important facet of our society. Enter 'VGHS', a high school that caters exclusively to budding professional video gamers from first-person shooters to rhythm games. Protagonist BrianD is accepted that the prestigious institution after he, by a stroke of luck, manages to kill celebrity gamer The Law in a Call of...

Safe Bet

As much as I loved watching John Winchester, patriarch of TV show Supernatural, hunt something supernatural in a different acting role, I couldn't get over just how bad the acting was in this movie overall. Don't get me wrong, Jefferey Dean Morgan did a hell of a job. But his costars, including veteran actress Kyra Sedgwick, just fell short. Although I suppose you shouldn't blame them, seeing as the script doesn't...

Almost Classic

Unlike its prequel film, 'The Mummy Returns' takes a decidedly less dark ambience in exchange for a greater scope in the story and even the development of a side story, that of the Scorpion King, which would go on to spawn a number of spin-off films, most notably starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

In 'The Mummy Returns', Rick and Evie have married and had a son named Alex. Unfortunately for them, high priest...

Good, But Could Be Better

One thing about the Hobbit that casual viewers of J.R.R. Tolkien's work don't often understand is that Tolkien was perhaps one of the greatest storywriters in history. Not only did he write the LOTR trilogy, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion, but the lore of an entire universe, languages and everything. The universe in which The Hobbit takes place is one full of subtelties and nuances that were difficult to...

Casual

As more of a Star Wars fan than a Trekkie, I think I can safely say that I am in the demographic toward which J.J. Abrahams and crew were aiming this reboot of the wildly popular Star Trek franchise. I'm not here to discuss conflicts or similarities between this film and the rest of the canon, but I will tell you that 'Star Trek' is exactly what the filmmakers set it out to be: a more action-packed version of the...

Thought-Provoking

I would imagine that many of you have seen 'Taken' or its sequel, 'Taken 2', starring everyone's favorite Irish giant Liam Neeson. Well, 'The Horseman' is pretty much both of those movies combined PLUS another heaping dose of crazy and a pinch of ridiculous.

Like 'Taken', 'The Horseman' is about a father getting revenge for wrongs done against their families, specifically their daughters. But, while Liam Neeson's...

Disappointing

As much as I love John Cusack, there is almost nothing more unforgivable than a cheesy, whodunnit thriller with a “twist” ending. 'Identity' watches like a quintessential thriller riding the wave of the cliched films of the 90s. It literally has every cliché of the genre: a twist ending, twist endings, and plot holes galore.

The problem I had with this movie wasn't the cast or the acting; in fact, the cast was...

Fully Original

The thing I like most about 'Heavy Metal' is its quirky originality that I have yet to see anywhere else. Presented as an anthology of various stories written and animated by various Canadian filmmakers, 'Heavy Metal' is thematically based off of Heavy Metal Magazine, a popular adult fantasy literature/art periodical.

It follows the Loc-Nar, a glowing green sphere that calls itself “the sum of all evil in the...
